AI Day 2023, organized collaboratively by VinAI and the New Turing Institute will spotlight applications in Natural Language Processing (NLP), image processing, and Machine Learning (ML), with a specific focus on transcending academic boundaries to provide practical insights into AI’s role in business and daily life. The aim is to facilitate collaborative opportunities between enterprises, entrepreneurs, and investors.

As we continue to witness the incredible growth and impact of Generative AI applying in every corner of reality, we are proud to announce the return of Vietnam’s most significant AI event: AI Day 2023, admiring the influencing of GenAI in research and Business.

AI Day 2023 is not just an event; it’s a vision brought to life. VinAI, in collaboration with the New Turing Institute, is hosting AI Day to bring together the brightest minds in the AI industry. Under the theme of “Empower AI: Reality Reimagined,” AI Day 2023, endorsed by the National Innovation Center (NIC), seeks to serve as a vital nexus for researchers, industry stakeholders, investors, and professionals. It aims to foster connections and bridge the divide between AI professionals and the broader public. This assembly spotlights the transformative role of GenAI in daily life and presents a wide array of opportunities for its integration across various economic and societal sectors in Vietnam.

AI Day 2023 boasts an impressive lineup of global experts who are pushing the boundaries of AI.  It is with great excitement that we announce the online participation of Mr. Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, who played a pivotal role in popularizing ChatGPT as an iconic representation of GenAI in 2023. The program will also feature esteemed professors and experts from prestigious institutions such as Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), and New York University (NYU), including renowned names like:

  • Dr. Hung H. Bui is the Founding Director and CEO of VinAI. Previously, he was at Google DeepMind, Adobe Research and Nuance Natural Language Understanding Lab, and led the multi-institution research team in developing probabilistic inference technologies for understanding user activities during the CALO project (the project that spun off Siri).
  • Prof. Martial Hebert is the Dean of Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science, a world-renowned institution for computer science education and research. He is a leading researcher in computer vision and robotics, who has worked on object recognition, scene understanding, and model construction from images and 3D data.
  • Prof. Simon Lucey is the Director of the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) at the University of Adelaide, Australia’s largest Machine Learning research group. He enjoys drawing inspiration from AI researchers of the past to attempt to unlock computational and mathematic models that underlie the processes of visual perception.
  • Prof. Christopher Manning, a Stanford University professor, is the director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (SAIL) and an associate director at the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI). Recognized with ACM, AAAI, and ACL fellowships, and as a coauthor of leading NLP and information retrieval textbooks, Manning’s influence is profound.
  • Prof. Anton van den Hengel leads the Centre for Augmented Reasoning at the Australian Institute for Machine Learning (AIML) and is a Computer Science professor at the University of Adelaide. He holds 8 patents, has launched 5 companies, and attained FDA approval for a medical technology. His research focuses on deep learning, vision, language, image-based modeling, and weekly supervised learning.
  • Dr. Angela Yao is a Dean’s Chair Assistant Professor in the School of Computing at the National University of Singapore. She is the recipient of the German Pattern Recognition (DAGM) award (2018) and Singapore’s National Research Foundation’s Fellowship in Artificial Intelligence (2019).
  • Dr. He He is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and the Center for Data Science at New York University, affiliated with the CILVR Lab, the Machine Learning for Language Group, and the Alignment Research Group. Her research focuses on understanding generalization principles in novel scenarios and creating interactive systems aligned with users’ objectives.
  • Prof. Dinh Phung is a Professor at Monash University, Australia and a Research Director of the Department of Data Science and AI in the Faculty of IT. He currently splits his time at Monash University working as a Senior Consultant and as the Principal Scientist at VinAI His research interests include machine learning, deep learning, optimal transport, Bayesian and graphical models.
  • Dr. Minh Hoai, Principal Research Scientist at VinAI, leads the Computer Vision group, focusing on cost-effective video analytics for large-scale camera streams. Dr. Hoai’s research interests include computer vision, machine learning, human behavior analysis, and visual counting.
  • Dr. Thang Luong is a Staff Research Scientist at Google Brain and is celebrated for pioneering advances in neural machine translation during his time at Stanford University. His impact extends beyond research, as evident in his role as an area chair at prestigious conferences like ACL and NeurIPS.
  • Dr. Thuc Vu, the Founder and CEO of OhmniLab in the Kambria ecosystem, holds a PhD in Computer Science from Stanford University. Known for his entrepreneurial prowess, he co-founded thriving ventures such as Tappy (acquired by Weeby.co) and Katango (acquired by Google). He is a crucial bridge between the Vietnamese and Silicon Valley tech communities.

These are just a few of the incredible speakers who will be sharing their expertise at our event. Stay tuned for many more to be announced!
